Netball 2020 Update

Submitted by ashbury on 27 April 2020 - 3:08pm

To all our Ashbury members we hope you are keeping safe and well. Here is the latest update from IWSNA.  We are all hoping that the comp will commence on 18 July and will keep you updated on all developments.
ANC Committee

Netball 2020 Update from IWSNA
We hope that our netball community is keeping well and managing the unprecedented changes that are impacting all of us through this COVID-19 pandemic.

At this stage, and in the event that there are no further restrictions we aim to commence our winter competition from 18 July. Most recent advice from Netball NSW and in line with the current Public Health Order is there can be no training sessions until 30 June.
Paramount to what we do is ensuring the health and safety of all our members. We are in the process of planning scenarios for implementation of our competition from this date taking into account feedback from all our clubs, guidance from Netball NSW and Government advice and restrictions.

Registration Fees
Netball NSW has advised that refund of registration fees would be premature at this time and this is consistent with the vast majority of winter sports. Inner West are following Netball NSW’s advice on this matter, whilst considering the interests of our members. Ensuring netball remains financially viable is critical to sustain our sport, not just during this period but into the future. In addition, it has been confirmed by the NSW Government that the $100 Active Kids Voucher money used by a parent to partially offset registration fees cannot, under any circumstances, be returned as cash.

Representative Netball
Netball NSW have confirmed the following format for 2020 Representative Netball competitions:
A 9 week Metro League will commence Monday 27th July
Hart State Titles for Juniors, 17s and 19s will be held over the October long weekend (3-5 Oct) with venues to be confirmed.
Open State Titles and Master will be held 17-18 October with venue to be confirmed.  The Representative Carnivals are being reviewed by Netball NSW

Please continue to stay safe during this period. We continue to be optimistic that our netball comp will proceed in July and that it will provide a much-needed release for all of us.

Yours in Netball,
IWSNA Executive Committee

All players are reminded that they must wear our registered uniform - green and white dress, black sports pants and predominately white socks.  If you have long hair, it must be tied back off your face.  Nails must be cut short and filed, no jewellery (rings, ear-rings, nose-rings or any piercings, bracelets) to be worn and should be left at home so that it doesn't get lost.   See below for further information on jewellery.

5.1.1  Players may not wear anything that could endanger themselves or other players, specifically:

(a) No adornment or jewellery may be worn other than a wedding ring which must be covered with tape

(b) A medical alert bracelet may be worn provided it is covered with tape

We are seeing more instances of players with ear-rings and nose-rings taped, which is a breach of the rules.  Players are saying they are unable to remove certain types of ear-rings or have just had their ears pierced.

All umpires are reminded that they need to check all players prior to the start of the game to ensure that players are not wearing any jewellery.

ALL  players and coaches need to be aware of this rule and that the only exceptions are the wedding ring and medi-alert bracelet.

Any player caught playing with jewellery will be asked to leave the court until such time as the item is removed.
